Hernandez and Macheda will fight with Owen, Rooney and Berbatov

ALEX FERGUSON will not loan out Javier Hernandez in his debut season at Manchester United. The Red Devils' boss has chosen the Mexico striker and Federico Macheda as the players to rival Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen, once fit. Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf will go on loan to get regular games and gain further experience. Hernandez, 22, made an instant impact in his first match for the club after arriving from Chivas Guadalajara, scoring in the 5-2 victory against the MLS All-Stars. Macheda bagged two goals and Fergie believes both players have bright futures in the game. affiliate program He said: "I need to keep Macheda and Hernandez. There was a lot of purpose in the way they played their football. "To play for a club like this is not just about talent. You need something else and they've got something else. I am pleased with that." Ferguso

Pre Season Tour: Man Utd 5 - 2 MLS All Star

JAVIER HERNANDEZ enjoyed a dream debut for Manchester United with a goal to cap victory against the MLS All Stars. Hernandez was introduced in the second half to the biggest cheer of the night from a crowd of 70,728. There are 950,000 people of Mexican descent in Houston and there were plenty here to welcome Chicharito — known as the Little Pea. And what a moment it was for him the 84th minute when he latched onto a through ball from Paul Scholes. The ball bounced once and as keeper Donovan Ricketts rushed out, the former Chivas striker coolly lifted the ball over him. The whole United team ran towards him in celebration as boss Alex Ferguson rose from the bench to applaud. It was United's final goal of the match as a forgotten young striker had given them the perfect start to the night. Federico Macheda hit the headlines 15 months ago with a dramatic injury time winner at home to Aston Villa. It proved pivotal in Manchester United claiming a hat-trick of Premier L

No More Signing For New Players in Man Utd

ALEX FERGUSON is backing Manchester United's whizkids - rather than spend millions in the transfer market. Boss Fergie insists the future of the club is in their own backyard with youngsters like Federico Macheda, Tom Cleverley, Javier Hernandez, Chris Smalling and the Da Silva twins, Rafael and Fabio. The new Old Trafford brat pack are all waiting to burst on to the Premier League stage this season. Manchester City are edging closer to spending £100million this summer. But Ferguson insisted: "I've got probably 12 players all under 21, which is a fantastic average age, and the future should be pretty secure with them. "Over the years we've bought players for quite high amounts like Dimitar Berbatov, Rio Ferdinand, Juan Sebastian Veron and Wayne Rooney. But we try to equate how we're going to get the proper value before we do it. "When I see some of the values now, and you're talking about players at £40m or £30m-odd, we have to asse

Alex Ferguson Back Owner

ALEX FERGUSON has launched an astonishing defence of the Glazer family. He claims that Manchester United's unpopular owners "have done their job well." Fans campaigned to oust US tycoon Malcolm Glazer and his sons - Avram, Bryan and Joel - who have saddled United with a £717million debt since their takeover in 2005. But Old Trafford boss Fergie said: "The debt has come through the club being bought out by an owner. "You know very well that no matter which business is bought nowadays, it's usually bought with debt. "Because it's a football club it seems to attract a different type of negative reporting particularly from some of our fans. "When Manchester United Football Club went plc, it was inevitible somebody was going to buy it. "It's unfair that because a particular family like the Glazers bought it, they should come under criticism when anybody could have bought it. "I have to say they've done their job well. The

Man Utd Owner on rich list

MANCHESTER UNITED are still worth more than any other club in the world. The Red Devils have assets amounting to a staggering £1.24BILLION. But the Glazer family, who own the club, do have debts of around £700m secured against it. The next biggest sporting franchise is American Football outfit Dallas Cowboys - weighing in at £1.11bn, according to rich-list compilers Forbes magazine. Tiger Woods took the individual honours for the ninth straight year, raking in £70m. But that was a drop of around 10 per cent as sponsors spurned golf's No 1 following lurid tales of his sex life. David Beckham scooped £27m. Source: The Sun

New Man Utd Target Player, Steven Defour

MANCHESTER UNITED are lining up a £13million bid for Belgian midfielder Steven Defour. But Alex Ferguson has been told he must wait until the Standard Liege star has fully recovered from a broken foot. Fergie has been trailing Defour for more than a year and wrote the player a letter of encouragement when he suffered his injury. Now the United boss has been alerted by news of interest in 22-year-old Defour from new Liverpool chief Roy Hodgson. Fergie wants to head off rival bids by securing a quick deal for the player, who is now around 85 per cent fit. Defour has a contract until 2013 but his agent Paul Stefani confirmed: "Sir Alex has been interested in Steven since he sent him the letter last September when he was struggling with injury. "He is still interested but we have to wait for an offer to be accepted by Standard Liege. "There is also interest from clubs in Spain, Italy and Germany, but everyone wants to play in the Premier League." Source: The

Danny Welbeck Ready to be 1st Eleven

DANNY WELBECK wants to challenge Manchester United's superstars for a starting spot this term. The striker, 19, has played a key role with Alex Ferguson's first team in pre-season. He spent the end of the last campaign on loan at Preston, managed by Ferguson's son Darren. And although he is prepared to be farmed out again, Welbeck is hoping to be considered for the starting XI. He said: "My main aim is to be part of the first team set-up this season. "But I'm happy to go on loan if the manager wants me to. I just want to keep playing games and improving. "I feel like I've improved a lot over the last couple of years in particular. "I've learnt so much during that time, particularly the importance of mental strength on and off the pitch. "I want to keep improving and striving to show everyone what I can do." Welbeck admits he is inspired by United legends Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. He added: "It's always g

Vidic Stay with Man Utd

NEMANJA VIDIC has agreed a whopping £18million deal to stay at Manchester United. His £90,000-a-week contract ends Jose Mourinho's bid to lure him to Real Madrid. United boss Alex Ferguson moved to keep the 28-year-old Serbian defender by making him one of the highest earners at the club. The former Spartak Moscow star, signed for £7m in 2006, had two years remaining on a £70,000- a-week deal. United have offered Vidic a two-year extension and improved terms on his remaining two years to take his deal to a massive £18.72m. United's World Cup players have been excused the current tour to the United States so the deal will be signed when the Serb returns from holiday next month. United chief executive David Gill said: "I am very pleased to confirm we agreed terms with Nemanja on a new long-term deal. "We've shaken hands on it and we're confident it will be signed in early August. It's great news." Vidic's decision to stay is a huge boost g
