New Man Utd Target Player, Steven Defour

MANCHESTER UNITED are lining up a £13million bid for Belgian midfielder Steven Defour.
But Alex Ferguson has been told he must wait until the Standard Liege star has fully recovered from a broken foot.

Fergie has been trailing Defour for more than a year and wrote the player a letter of encouragement when he suffered his injury. Now the United boss has been alerted by news of interest in 22-year-old Defour from new Liverpool chief Roy Hodgson.

Fergie wants to head off rival bids by securing a quick deal for the player, who is now around 85 per cent fit.
Defour has a contract until 2013 but his agent Paul Stefani confirmed: "Sir Alex has been interested in Steven since he sent him the letter last September when he was struggling with injury.

"He is still interested but we have to wait for an offer to be accepted by Standard Liege.
"There is also interest from clubs in Spain, Italy and Germany, but everyone wants to play in the Premier League."

Danny Welbeck Ready to be 1st Eleven

DANNY WELBECK wants to challenge Manchester United's superstars for a starting spot this term. The striker, 19, has played a key role with Alex Ferguson's first team in pre-season. He spent the end of the last campaign on loan at Preston, managed by Ferguson's son Darren. And although he is prepared to be farmed out again, Welbeck is hoping to be considered for the starting XI. He said: "My main aim is to be part of the first team set-up this season. "But I'm happy to go on loan if the manager wants me to. I just want to keep playing games and improving. "I feel like I've improved a lot over the last couple of years in particular. "I've learnt so much during that time, particularly the importance of mental strength on and off the pitch. "I want to keep improving and striving to show everyone what I can do." Welbeck admits he is inspired by United legends Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. He added: "It's always g...

Vidic Stay with Man Utd

NEMANJA VIDIC has agreed a whopping £18million deal to stay at Manchester United. His £90,000-a-week contract ends Jose Mourinho's bid to lure him to Real Madrid. United boss Alex Ferguson moved to keep the 28-year-old Serbian defender by making him one of the highest earners at the club. The former Spartak Moscow star, signed for £7m in 2006, had two years remaining on a £70,000- a-week deal. United have offered Vidic a two-year extension and improved terms on his remaining two years to take his deal to a massive £18.72m. United's World Cup players have been excused the current tour to the United States so the deal will be signed when the Serb returns from holiday next month. United chief executive David Gill said: "I am very pleased to confirm we agreed terms with Nemanja on a new long-term deal. "We've shaken hands on it and we're confident it will be signed in early August. It's great news." Vidic's decision to stay is a huge boost g...
